Diamonds have been considered as precious gems for countless of years. They have been a subject of passion for many men and women for decades. The mining of these gems, however, is tinged with a horrifying history, which have prompted several human rights groups to rise in protest. The dark background of diamond mining has even encouraged Hollywood producers to make a film out of the tidbits of horror stories that people hear about diamond mining.

    Fortunately, companies and manufacturers have found a way to create diamonds that are as beautiful as the mined ones. These diamonds are created in laboratories and manufacturing stations through the use of new and advanced technologies. People can now buy diamonds without worrying about how these precious stones were mined before being purchased.

    There are two types of diamonds that people can buy aside from the mined or real diamonds. These are synthetic diamonds and simulated diamonds. While these two may be both manufactured and not naturally taken from mines, their similarities end there. Synthetic diamonds and simulated diamonds are very much different in terms of how they are made as well as in terms of quality.

    A synthetic diamond is created out of 99 carbon. It is not mostly meant for use in jewelry-making but in manufacturing and precision technology, although some jewelry-makers may also make jewelries out of these types. Currently, two big companies are producing these diamonds in the US and these are Apollo Diamonds and Gemesis. Synthetic diamonds, although man-made are considered to be real diamonds and are priced at higher value much like the mined ones. Simulated diamonds, on the other hand, are fakes and may be priced lower.

    Simulated diamonds are manufactured and made to look like the real diamonds, but their material content do not contain the characteristics of the real diamonds.
