Everyone knows that selling jewelry online has come a long way in the past 10 to 15 years. When the Internet was really gaining momentum in the mid-1990s, people were still weary about using their credit card online. Most of the concerns revolved around security issues. And being a seller on the Internet back then wasn’t easy either. Most sellers had to get a merchant account with a bank or an affiliated merchant to process payments. I remember paying about $1,500 to purchase merchant account software. Even with that technology, my customers were still cautious about using their credit cards online. Fast forward to 2010 and it seems like a different world. Actually its a much better world for buyers and sellers because of Paypal, Ebay and Amazon. Again, all three were around in the mid-1990s, but most were in their infancy stages.
As a seller of wholesale jewelry, there are so many great opportunities to sell jewelry online. For example, you can have an online store with Etsy, Ruby Lane, Ecrater, and many more. The great part about selling wholesale jewelry is that retailers are looking to buy in bulk for a discount and there is not a huge supply of wholesalers competing with you in comparison to retailers. Whether you are an artisan who designs handmade jewelry or a small-scale diamond cutter who sells diamond earrings or ruby necklaces, the wholesale jewelry industry is a profitable place to be.
The other great part about selling online in today’s marketplace is that you don’t have to have a merchant account that costs $1,500 (for example). Instead, you can benefit from signing up for a free Paypal account and accept payments that way. Or for a small fee you can have a commercial Paypal account. But the best part is that Paypal provides a very organized and practical framework to process your payments. So if you sell wholesale jewelry as your profession or if you are building your business on a part-time basis, you have inexpensive technology at your fingertips to keep your costs down and your business thriving.
