I have just returned from Paris and am headed to Singapore next week to attend the international jewellery exhibition. I have a stall at the main exhibition where I will be exhibiting my creations made especially for the international audience. The theme of my designs this time is Celebration of the Seasons.

Come to think of it, my journey as a designer started years ago when I was just ten years old. Visiting my grandmother in Mexico was always something we children looked forward to. My grandparents owned a huge home amidst a farm spread over three hundred acres. My grandmother was a huge, but beautiful lady. Long years of hard physical work on the farm had not marred her beauty and she maintained herself well.  It was while playing and hiding in my grandmother’s room that I by chance came across this beautiful thing lying on her dressing table. I was too young to know what it was, but there it lay shining bright silver against the blue satin cloth. Little did I know that it was a hair pin delicately carved out like a butterfly with enamel painted wings with lovely hues of purple, green, and beautiful red eyes.  This little piece of fashion jewellery captivated me entirely and for many years I traveled all throughout my childhood fantasy world with this beautiful butterfly that I found in my grandmother’s room.

On subsequent days I had explored the wood chest box on the dressing table and found many more pieces. There was the beautiful fish pendant and another hairpin with the dragon design on the bangles. Lovely sets in gold and silver were neatly kept and maintained in this chest box. My grandfather had traveled widely and had always brought back home, pieces of fashion jewellery for his wife.

It were these early childhood encounters with jewellery that brought out the designer hidden in me. Along with becoming creative and working on designs, I also became a very fashionable person and taking after my grandmother I can happily say that am very well groomed.

In school I took art classes and improved my drawing. My father taught me photography which came in very useful in my profession. I have always had a good eye for colors. By the time I completed graduation from the art college I had built a good portfolio and managed to get a few projects for designing jewellery.  So, my life decided to pursue my dreams of extravagant colorful creations. Today, many women wear my fashion jewellery pieces and that is what gives me satisfaction in life.
