These days, we seem to be getting a lot of questions from people who are trying to make a decision regarding the purchase of a wedding ring. This has obviously never been an easy decision, but it has only become harder over the last few years, due to a lot of changes in the public consciousness. As we all know, diamonds were once the staple for wedding rings, and have been so for as long as most people can remember – but this has finally started to change, and a lot of people are now confused. What used to be a somewhat easier (or at least more straightforward) decision has now become one of the most confusing purchases a young couple will ever have to make.

On the one hand, you have the rise of diamond substitutes, such as cubic zirconium and so on. On the other hand, the world of wedding rings has opened its doors to a whole new range of precious and semi precious jewels that were once considered very unorthodox, but are now considered very fresh and original. For example, a few decades ago the idea of a sapphire wedding ring, or a ruby ring, would have been seen as very unusual – these days, it is seen as being painfully stylish. The times are certainly changing.
Of course, there are also a lot of people who are choosing to eschew stones altogether, and just going with wedding rings that are made entirely out of a precious metal. White gold wedding rings have always been popular, but usually they had a diamond on top – these days, the diamond is becoming more and more superfluous in people’s eyes. This marks a big change from the traditional mindset, and means that the decision to purchase a wedding ring has become much more complex.

In spite of that, however, there is no arguing the fact that the wider range of choices available today is amazing. Young couples these days are starting to realize the stunning beauty of a simple brushed platinum band, whereas just a few short years ago, nobody would have dreamed of such a thing.  Having said that, the white gold wedding ring has been a staple and will always be a stylish option and obviously less expensive than platinum.
