Jewelry boxes make life easier.  How do I know? Cause I have experienced both sides of the coin. In my earlier years, I thought that a jewelry box was not needed. I was perfectly happy with my haphazard storage methods. I would simply use the little cardboard boxes that I collected as I bought jewelry and that were give me to as gifts to store all of my jewelry in my top dresser drawer. When I had a small jewelry collection this seemed work perfectly fine. However, as my jewelry collection grew, I began to understand the importance of proper jewelry storage and care.

People always like to know that you appreciate their gifts and that you actually like them and use them. That is why we wear that ugly sweater that grandma gave us when she comes over for Thanksgiving dinner. Well the same is true of jewelry. My husband asked me one day, “where is that diamond necklace that I gave you for your birthday? I have not seen you wear it for a long time”. I told him that I had just worn it several days earlier to work, which was a lie, and that he must have missed it when I wore it. The truth of the matter was that I had broken the necklace due to improper storage. I actually did love the necklace, however, a few months earlier when I was getting it out of one of my little cardboard boxes, it was tangled with several other necklaces and in my impatience I pulled a little too hard and broke the necklace.

After my husband asked me about the necklace and I lied so he would not feel bad, I decided to get the necklace fixed. At the same time I went out and bought a new wooden jewelry box to store my items. Additionally, I purchased a small leather jewelry box (actually it was more like a small purse) since I started to travel often for work and needed to bring different jewelry to match my wardrobe. What I found after purchasing them was that jewelry boxes really do make like easier. Here are the top five reasons why I believe that my jewelry box has made my life easier.

    1. My jewelry is organized. I spend less time every morning hunting and pecking for the jewelry that I want to wear. This is especially true for my earrings. I never realized how much time I would actually spend each morning searching through my little boxes looking for the other earring that matched the first one that I always seemed to find right away.
    2. My jewelry is cared for and breaks less often. I ruined several herring bone necklaces along the way by storing them improperly and causing kinks that I could not fix. Additionally, I have lost several earrings to the monster in my drawer that would eat them (much like the many socks that I can only find one of). Now I store my jewelry neatly in my wooden jewelry box as soon as I get home from work or a night out and voila, it is always there for me next time.
    3. I save a lot of money from jewelry repairs and replacement. You can probably figure out why based on my stories above.
    4. I have found jewelry that I previously did not know or remember that I had. When my jewelry was at the bottom of a small box with other jewelry on top, I often forgot what I had. I have found several older but beautiful pieces that I forgot that I had and that I now wear often.
    5. I won’t have to lie to my husband anymore! Since I am now taking care of my jewelry, I hope to never have another incident of “honey, where is that….” happen again due to my carelessness.
